Cellar Notes, Chateau Peychaud 2003 Cotes de Bourg "Vielle Vignes"
The 2003 Chateau Peychaud which had been resting in our wine cellar for about three years will now be appearing on our wine list. The district of Cotes de Bourg is on the right side of the Dordogne river surrounding the village of Bourg. The grapes used are essentially merlot with a small percentage of cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. I tried the wine last week. Its a pretty big, fruit forward type of wine. Fans of Australia and Chile will not be let down. The colour is inky, dark, with a rim of garnet and rust. The wine is very aromatic, and kind of suggests, red currant, strawberry, dried plum with a hint of smoke. In your mouth, the tannins are mellow but there is a bit of grip there as well. The flavours last a long time. I would recommend the rack of veal or the rib-eye steak prepared medium.
